which it has not already been capitalized. In view of the Army Council's claim to a cash payment for these plots, when no
longer required for War Department purposes, this Government is of opinion that it would be only equitable that payment. in cash of this sum of $77,868.78 should now be made.
6.
With a view, however, to a settlement of this
matter, the Colonial Government is prepared, in consideration
of a Credit in the Colonial Military Lands Account of
$77,868.78 in respect of the Crown Rents referred to above, to include plots A to G in War Department Lot No. 6 and to pay cash for them when no longer required for War Department
purposes. The plan attached to the Memorandum should state
their areas and shew them in a distinctive colour.
7. For the reasons stated in the Land Officer's letter
of the 19th February, 1929, mentioned above, it will be more
satisfactory to include plots A to G in War Department Lot
No.6, than that the War Department should hold a number of
small plots on varying terms, whic will involve new leases
in the cases where the old leases have ceased to exist, and
some agreement for the re-imposition of Crown Rent in the event
of the Lots passing again into the hands of private individuals.
I have, &c.,
(sd.) T. S. Whyte-Smith,
Land Officer.
